Mills Folly Microcinema presents the Project Projection Fall 2026 screening of film and video work produced by filmmakers who live in Madison and Dane County. Project Projection screenings are showcases for local experimental films, video art, short docs, animation, dance films, and music videos.

Self-Portrait with Burning Tree is a video art performance piece in which the artist stands before a blazing tree holding a large hexagonal mirror angled at the fire. As the flames grow and consume the pine, the artist emerges from the pitch black, creating an ever-changing Caravaggio-esque tableau of lights and darks that invites the observer’s gaze to wander the triangle between the human body, the reflection, and the “real thing,” and consider the nature of perception. Set to the experimental vocal piece "Do You Be?" by Meredith Monk.

Unfortunately, I no longer have possession of these artworks, which is a separate narrative. Consequently, I have chosen to revive "The Faceless series" through the innovative use of AI for experimentation and exploration.

The People's Film is a placeholder title for the documentary currently being produced surrounding the Fight For Our Lives Democracy Tour. It focuses on bringing voices from all across Wisconsin in support of fighting for issues that are threatening our democracy and making sure people get out there to vote. The tour started on Juneteenth in Milwaukee and comes to a close right around the Midterms in November.

We network with regional filmmakers and organizations to bring filmmakers and guest programmers to Madison for screenings. And we incubate local experimental filmmaking by providing screen time at Project Projection events.
