Thunderbolt Weaving
Indigenous Ho-Chunk Artist, Jennifer White Eagle has over twenty-five years of experience in sewing, beadwork, leather work and specializes in finger-weaving related to her Ho-chunk culture. Jennifer was introduced to finger weaving by Ken Lemieux who was taught by Germaine Green during a workshop. She was motivated to create a belt for her daughter who was interested in dancing the Ho-Chunk appliqué style. Since then she has created many belts, arm and leg ties and keychains. Her passion has influenced her to continue to teach others. Each yarn belt begins with one piece of yarn being woven into the middle of the other pieces of yarn. One adult yarn belt will take about sixty hours to complete. The two belts on display are worn around the waist with the Ho-Chunk women’s style of facing called “Ho-Chunk Appliqué”.
