Erika Rosales | Primordial Echoes / Ecos Primordiales

Arts + Literature Laboratory presents Primordial Echoes / Ecos Primordiales, an exhibition by Erika Rosales, on display in the second floor mezzanine gallery from Tuesday, November 18 to Saturday, December 20, 2025

An opening reception for all current exhibitions will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

Artist statement:

At its core, Primordial Echoes explores the juxtaposition of ethereal and earthly imprints of universal energetic forces. This concept emphasizes the transformation of a fundamental essence into individual existing forms, highlighting the connection between the divine origin and its physical existence. It is an invitation to explore our reality beyond the physical and embrace realms that exist outside our linear and constrained human perspective.

Each piece reflects the complexity of our human relationship to the world and the universe, not only as physical places but also as a portals to existence beyond time and space. The visuals from the physical to non-physical are represented through abstraction. Acrylic paint is used as well as unconventional materials such as dried foods to create texture that enhances the emotional aspects of the paintings. Employing gilding and metallic paints allows the artist to provide a sense of mysticism and connection to the divine.

The viewer is encouraged to engage with the pieces from a place beyond the five senses and embark on a spiritual journey, establishing a connection between the material and the immaterial.

Artist Erika Rosales

Originally from Temascalcingo, Estado de Mexico, Mexico, Erika Rosales is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based in Madison, Wisconsin. Her work is inspired by the exploration of reconnection, liberation, spirituality and coming back to self.

As a child in Mexico, Erika engaged with art through drawing. However as a teenager living in the U.S., she felt lost, and distanced herself from art. As her spirit craved both self-expression and reconnection to culture, she returned to art through stage performance. Mexican Folkloric dance allowed her to surrender to the process of self-exploration, which led her to painting and drawing again. The challenges of living as an undocumented immigrant in the U.S. with DACA, and the complexity of the earthly experience have allowed her to search for healing, connection, self-awareness, and beauty.

Erika’s visual art includes abstract paintings through different mediums such as alcohol ink on yupo paper and... Read More
