Statement

My art is an exploration of roles, perception and the connections that shape our lives. Drawing from the personal and every day through the haze of nostalgia, I bring dream like color palettes to snippets of memory. When we remember, we enhance the feelings, both loving and painful and not always accurate. Living here feels like longing.

The subjects of my work revolve around identity - specifically the way we define ourselves and how those definitions are shaped by the people, cultures, and experiences around us. I am interested in the tension between identity and belonging. How do we maintain a sense of self while being influenced by the people we surround ourselves with, and how does our sense of connection shape our identities?

Growing up biracial, I often found myself navigating between cultures and identities which made me especially attuned to the subtle ways we present ourselves and the invisible forces that shape us. In my portraits, I capture the nuanced emotions and quiet moments between people.

Through these works, I also reflect on the complexity of self. I believe “self” is fluid and multi dimensional. By focusing on internal landscapes - whether through my own self portraits or images of others - I aim to create work that allows space for ambiguity, mystery and personal introspection.

When people engage with my illustrations, Photographs and paintings, my hope is that they will see the world through my eyes - one where the mundane becomes emotional, and the lines between self and other, individuality and connection, are constantly shifting.
